AERI Institute 2009

Accommodations

For all Participants

In order to obtain meal tickets, you will need to check into the De Neve dormitories even if you have arranged to stay elsewhere. On-Campus accommodations are included in the conference registration fee and it is strongly recommended that all participants check into De Neve upon arrival. Even if you choose to stay elsewhere, this room will be yours to use through Friday night and will provide you with a place to rest or store items during the day.

Meals

Most meals are included in the conference fee. Meals (breakfast and lunch) will be provided at the De Neve Residential Restaurant. This is a buffet-style dining hall and can accommodate various dietary needs.

Conference participants will need to arrange for their own meals for the following times:

Sunday, July 5: all meals

Monday, July 6: Dinner

Tuesday, July 7: Dinner

Wednesday, July 8:

For those participating in the field trips: Lunch

For those not participating: Dinner

Friday, July 10: Dinner

Saturday, July 11: dinner

A map of additional nearby dining locations is located here (pdf). Please note that Puzzles and Rendezvous are not open during the summer.

Restaurants elsewhere on campus are listed here. Conference participants staying on campus will find that the central campus restaurants are closest to De Neve. Northern Lights and the North Campus Student Center are closest to the department of Information Studies, where some of the conference events are located. If you would like to keep eating at De Neve, you may purchase additional meal tickets for the times above in the lobby.

Dormitory Space

Accommodations on the UCLA campus are available for all conference participants from the evening of Sunday, July 5, 2009 through the evening of Friday, July 10, 2009. If you plan on checking-in on Sunday, July 5, you must contact Josh Sternfeld (aeri@gseis.ucla.edu) prior to your arrival if you have not done so already in your registration form. On-Campus accommodations are included in the conference registration fee. Los Angeles residents may choose to stay off-campus, but please note that off-campus accommodations do not result in a reduced conference fee.

You should indicate on your conference registration form (to be returned with your payment) if you will need dormitory accommodations and if you would like a room for the night of Sunday, July 5, 2009 or for the night of July 11, 2009.

Space is limited for the final Saturday evening (July 11, 2009) and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Pictures of the dormitories are available here.

Check-In

You will check-in with De Neve directly. The lobby of De Neve is located on the floor above the cafeteria/commons.

You may check-in for your room at any time but the AERI registration desk will be set-up from 12-5 on Sunday and again on Monday morning.

In order to obtain the included meals, everyone needs to check-in even if you are local or will be staying off-campus.

Wireless is available in the lobby, but you will need to bring your own ethernet cable for your room.

The bulk of the conference will take place in De Neve itself. A floorplan of the meeting rooms is available here.

Alternative Accommodations

If you would like to extend your stay or were unable to reserve a room for Saturday, July 11, 2009, you may wish to stay in one of these nearby hotels. With the exception of the UCLA Guest House, the AERI planning committee has not evaluated the quality of these hotels, but they are provided here as they are located near campus.
